User guide
Finplanr splits a monthly savings budget across categories and holdings. It is a planning tool and does not place orders.
Basics
- Budget: Enter the amount you want to save each month. The categories (for example equity ETFs, ETCs (exchange-traded commodities), crypto, savings account (Tagesgeld)) add up to 100%.
- Weights: Move the sliders to change the shares. The remainder is redistributed automatically across the other entries.
- Language: The app starts in English by default. Use the DE/EN switch in the top-right corner to change the language.
- Whole euros or cents: In Settings, choose whether amounts are rounded to whole euros or include cents.
Edit mode
In Edit mode you can:
- change names and identifiers: ticker, ISIN and WKN (German securities number),
- change logos,
- reorder categories and holdings by drag & drop.
The optional online search (crypto, securities, images) may return matches. Always verify identifiers yourself before setting up a real savings plan.
Locks and balancing partners
- Lock: A locked entry (category or holding) keeps its value while you move other sliders.
- Balancing partner: Defines which entries absorb a change. Without partners, the adjustment is spread across all unlocked entries.
Charts
Click the name of a holding to open a TradingView chart panel below its row, showing a daily chart for the ticker. The TradingView widget loads only after that click and then contacts TradingView, which receives your IP address. Without a click, no connection is made.
Logos
For the default assets the app shows logos automatically: coin logos for crypto and issuer logos for ETFs. Logos for the common coins and ETF issuers are bundled with the app (no external request). Other logos are requested from Google's favicon service or the jsDelivr CDN, and logos you pick via online image search or URL load from their source.
Export and import
The Export menu has two entries:
- JSON backup: The complete portfolio including settings and reset point. This is the only file that can be re-imported with Import. Use it to move your plan to another browser or device.
- CSV table: A read-only spreadsheet export of the current plan for Excel or LibreOffice, with the columns category, holding, ticker, ISIN, WKN, share % and euros per month. It cannot be imported back.
Import accepts JSON backups only.
Reset
- Reset point: Save your current plan as a personal reset point and return to it later.
- Factory reset: Restores the original defaults. Create a JSON backup first.
Data storage
Your data is stored only in your browser's localStorage. There are no accounts and nothing is stored on the server. Other browsers and devices have their own data, and clearing site data deletes your plan, so back it up regularly as JSON.
Note
Securities, commodities and crypto can lose value. Finplanr only calculates planned savings amounts and does not provide investment or tax advice.
